1) How does one appoint an alternate supervisor to cover for a supervisor who is absent for the purpose of approving timesheets and requests?
2) Can the administrator view authorization status? (ie: See where a particular timesheet is in the chain of authorizations at any given time)
3) Can the administrator authorize the timesheet on behalf of the supervisor?
4) If you have a group lead that you would like to view timesheets but not approve them, will turning off the timesheet authorization in the permission for a new group lead profile cause the subordinate's timesheet to skip the group lead and go directly to the supervisor?
Timesheet Authorization
In the hierarchy if two employees are at the same level with the "shared" flag enabled, they will share authorization duties at that level.1) How does one appoint an alternate supervisor to cover for a supervisor who is absent for the purpose of approving timesheets and requests?
Only if they are at the highest level of the authorization hierarchy, which also means that they are the final authorization level and must authorize timesheets too.2) Can the administrator view authorization status? (ie: See where a particular timesheet is in the chain of authorizations at any given time)
However they can of course view reports, such as the TimeSheet Summary report which shows if timesheets are authorized or not.
Again, only if they are in the hierarchy at the highest level.3) Can the administrator authorize the timesheet on behalf of the supervisor?
TimeSheet authorizations are based solely on the authorization hierarchy. If an employee in the authorization hierarchy does not have permissions to authorize timesheets, then all timesheets pending that persons approval will of course be "stuck" at that level, unless someone at a higher level authorizes them.4) If you have a group lead that you would like to view timesheets but not approve them, will turning off the timesheet authorization in the permission for a new group lead profile cause the subordinate's timesheet to skip the group lead and go directly to the supervisor?
If that person is not in the hierarchy, then timesheets won't wait on that person for approva, so having the authorize timesheet permission won't make much difference.

Regarding number 4.
I have a payroll administrator at the top level, with supervisors as the number 2 and subordinates at level 3.
If the supervisor has not approved the timesheet, how does the payroll administrator get to the authorization function for the subordinates timesheet? Obviously, the payroll administrator can access the timesheet, but is not given the opportunity to authorize. The request for authorization doesn't seem to show up on the payroll administrators authorization screen until the supervisor has approved the timesheet.
