Directories not Writable

Writable Cache Directory, Writable Storage Directory, Writable Log Directory all say their not writable during installation as well as a message saying
I've tried adjusting the path in the config file, but it's no good. What should these paths be pointing to? I have a linux server, and I've changed Chmod permissions!
