As far as the timesheet verification, there is nothing to worry about, you can disable it in the permissions if you wish, or you can just ignore it, its for informational purposes only so payroll administration know if an employee has, or has not yet verified their timesheet. This is strictly for companies that require employees to "sign off" on timesheets each pay period.
As for the total hours, things to check:
- Is the employee assigned to a pay period schedule properly?
- Are the pay periods created?
- Are there hours to be totaled?
