California Compliance Potential Solutions

Post by JeffersonKim »

From reading http://forums.timetrex.com/viewtopic.php?t=564&
there seems to be some common problems that are unique to Californian employers. For a FREE, and powerful time software though, I can't complain :)

Here are some limitations and potential work arounds that I've been trying to figure out. I'll be updating this as I use the software.

LIMITATIONS:
1) We need paid breaks. The system currently does not pay for breaks.

2) We need full documentation of all breaks and lunches/meals (down to the minute) on a hard copy time sheet that the employee signs or acknowledges. Timetrex only prints the "Normal" clock in and clock out. Any other clock ins or outs are not displayed for that day.

SOLUTIONS/WORKAROUNDS:
1) My only work around for this is to have a separate piece of gridded paper that my employees all write in when they take a break. Yes, it's a headache, but I'm not too obsessed over it after this most ruling:

Which basically makes it so we don't have to obsess over "policing" our employees to take their breaks!!!

2) I'm using the CSV export of the detailed punch report to create a custom reports using iReport made by Jaspersoft (which is also free!). The tutorial helped me get through it, even though it was for an older version:

If any of you have other problems you've seen trying to comply to CA law and have some potential solutions, please post here! I'll be adding your info above, as a semi wiki environment.

The original post is quite old and no longer accurate.

TimeTrex v3.0 or newer supports Break policies for paid/unpaid breaks, as well it has a Detailed TimeSheet that prints out all punch times (including breaks/lunches) that the employees can sign.
