Accruals depending on the number of hours worked

Post by jpmahon »

Presently there are two accrual options:
1) adding accrued hours manually
2) calendar accruals

Neither of these represents how we would like accruals handled.
We presently calculate the accrued vacation time by multiplying a
factor by the number of hours worked.
e.g. if one assumes 3 weeks vacation and 8 holidays per year then
there are (52-3)*40-8*8= 1896 normal work hours a year. We accrue
vacation hours at a rate of (3*40)/1896 = 0.06329 hours per hour worked.
Holiday hours are accrued at a rate of (8*8)/1896 = 0.03375 hours per hour worked.
Sick leave can also be calculated this way.

This makes it easy to deal with part time workers since they accrue vacation,
holiday and sick leave exactly the same way as full time employees.

Presently we have to do these calculations by hand. It would be very nice if
it was done automatically.

Thanks
John

I see hours based accruals are already on our TODO list, so they will be done at some point in the near future.

In the mean time, it may be possible to mimic a similar behavior by using dollar based accruals. Thats how they do it in Canada, they basically take 4% of the employees gross wage and accrual that.

You can then convert that dollar amount back to hours essentially at any time.

It actually turns out to be more fair that way too, since if an employee has 40 hours accrued already and you give them a 10% raise, then the next week they want to take a week off for vacation, you essentially pay them 10% more in vacation that they really didn't earn (yet). Assuming you don't make any manual adjustment at that point of course.

A dollar based accrual automatically handles this scenario.

Obviously local laws may prevent this from working for you, but it may be an automated alternative for anyone out there.

I'm just adding this post to show that I would like this feature too. Maybe moving this item up the priority list :)

Noted, we appreciate the show of support for individual features, it helps us gauge the demand better especially in cases where we may have mis estimated it.
