Setting Up For Jury Duty

Post by retched »

(This doesn't apply in my case but is still a good question.)

If an employee is called away for Jury Duty and the Employer is required to pay the fee for Jury Duty (say $40.00), how do you set up the Absence Policy? (If it's indeed the absence policy that needs to be setup.)

In some states, employer's have to pay a daily fee for each day that an employee is serving as a Juror. In New York's case, that's an additional $40.

There are several ways you can handle this:

1. You can setup a wage group called "Jury Duty", which you can then define as $40/hr, and a Jury Duty absence policy which then uses this wage group and for each day the employee is on jury duty create an absence for 1hr of Jury Duty.

2. The same as the above, only make the hourly rate $5, so a 8hr day equals $40. This may just be more consistent with your records. You can of course use the scheduling module to schedule the employee off for jury duty too.

3. If you use TimeTrex to process payroll, simply create a Pay Stub Amendment for the total amount of Jury Duty time/dollars required in each pay period.
