2.1.2, Day Rounding, Out Punches

Post by dhbarr »

Thanks to the assistance with Dynamic Interval Recurring Holidays, we've gotten the base install working and are learning the ropes for moving away from a pen-and-paper system.

The one remaining issue that we know of has to do with our Rounding Policy. Under [ Admin > Policies > Rounding Policy ] we have an entry as follows:
  • Name : Daily Round
  • Punch Type: Day Total
  • Round Type : Average
  • Interval: 0.25 Hours
  • Strict Schedule (unchecked)
  • Grace Period: 0.00 Hours
The problem: Employees are successfully being daily rounded, however TimeTrex appears to be moving their Out Punch in order to make this happen. For instance, an employee who punched in at 9:01 and out at approximately 5:00 with no Lunch Punch is snapped to a 5:01 Out Punch. What configuration is recommended to permit recording of exact timestamps for Regular In, Lunch Out, Lunch In, Regular Out?

What we're trying to accomplish here is a fairly flexible schedule: Clock in between 7 A.M. and 10:00 A.M., take an hour or so for lunch between 11:00 and 15:00, and punch out somewhere between 16:00 and 19:00. We simply want to note the exact time each of these four punches occur, then apply an Average Rounding to the daily total.

Thanks again for the previous help in getting through the install process.

There is no way for TimeTrex to round just the total time, and not the punches.

The reason is simple, because if an employee/auditor is reviewing timesheets, you want them to be able to calculate the punch times and have it match the total, otherwise they will deem the timesheet as inaccurate and cause a fuss or some extreme cases legal problems.

However, TimeTrex does record two times with each punch, the rounded time which is used for most reports and for paying employees, and an "actual time", which is the exact to the minute time they punched in/out. You can view this "actual time" when editing a punch, or on many of the timesheet reports.
