Tax Wizard shows 2020 when generating W2

Post by muthus101 »

Hi - the Tax wizard shows 2020 as the year when we generate W2 PDF or E-file format. ( Same with State as well) however, if we generate it from Tax reports or TaxWizard--> Select W2State or Fed --> Form Set up --> view (Top right) it generates with the correct year. Is this a bug? I would have thought someone would have caught it by now - Appreciate any help. ( BTW I did use an old parser to verify the file EFW2 and i see that it generates with 2020 in e-file)

Posting the screenshot. I do see that for 940 and W2 the start date shows Dec 31 2020 is that an issue? The e0file generated also had 2020 in the W2 format file.

Yes, you need to make sure the time period dates are correct, they should be 01-Jan-2021 to 31-Dec-2021. You can change them by clicking the "Edit Remittance Agency" button at the bottom, then click the "Events" tab, edit the W2 event, and click the "Recalculate Dates" checkmark and pick a different date such that the Start/End dates are correct and click Save.

Also make sure you are running the latest version of TimeTrex (v15.1.5 at this time) before proceeding.

Thank you that helped to change to 2021

Two more pointers to note - The E-File Generated does not have the BSO Identifier (to file W2 electronically) and it throws an error. I was able to edit the text file to fix it - is there any other location where we can add the SSA BSO ID ? if there is not - let us at least notify or make a note that the BSO ID has to be added before uploading e-file.

Sounds like you haven't setup your remittance agencies yet. If you go to Payroll -> Remittance Agencies, there are additional fields in both the IRS and SSA agency records that you can fill out.

Thank you for the pointers - I did not fill out the E-file ID on the IRS tab as i did not know it was same as the W2/SSA e-file ID. ( i was looking for it in the SSA tab). Thanks a lot.
One last question - The IL State S/UI excel they are not in the State suggested format. Appreciate any pointers to correct and file that
