Shared hosting environments.

Post by shaunw »

TimeTrex is considered to be enterprise class software, even though it works great for small companies with just a few employees, its designed to scale up, in fact that some of the largest companies in the world with well over 10,000+ employees use it on a daily basis and rely on it for their workforce management needs. Because of this it requires a modest amount of computing resources and also a wide range of software extensions to properly handle its wide range of features including its security and encryption requirements.

Unfortunately this directly contradicts the purpose of most shared hosting environments, because they are sold at such low price points, in order to make a profit providers must pack as many customers as possible onto the least number of servers and they do this by artificially restricting the available resources to any single customer. In fact many mobile phones will have over 50x the available resources as the majority of shared hosting environments offer. In addition to this they also only provide a very limited set of security and encryption extensions, if any at all.

So while TimeTrex can install and run fine on some shared hosting environments, its not recommended or supported as there are simply too many factors outside of your control that can and almost certainly will cause problems with either the installation or day to day operation of TimeTrex.

As an alternative to shared hosting environments, virtual private servers or dedicated servers where you have full control over the operating system (administrator or root access) will often work much better. You may also consider our free Cloud hosted Community Edition, where no software installation is necessary at all.
